Capital Improvement Projects Financial Manager

This role is pivotal in overseeing a substantial team dedicated to Capital Improvement Projects, focusing on Program Controls, which encompass budgeting, estimating, cost management, and planning/scheduling. The Financial Manager is tasked with ensuring precise financial reporting and delivering strategic insights that align with our organizational objectives. The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in construction finance, outstanding analytical capabilities, and the proficiency to collaborate effectively with the finance team.

Key Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Engineering, Construction Management, Accounting) or equivalent professional experience.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, including at least five years in Program Controls or a comparable role within the construction sector.
  • In-depth understanding of construction accounting principles, job costing, and financial management.
  • Expertise in the application and utilization of accounting software and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (e.g., Procore, Kahua).
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities:

  1. Support Project Teams throughout the entire project lifecycle.
  2. Generate program and project-level reports, including comprehensive cost analyses and change assessments.
  3. Oversee and manage budgets from the design phase through to project completion.
  4. Assist project managers with change management and the oversight of total project costs, including external contractors and consultants.
  5. Evaluate projects to ensure adequate funding by conducting estimates, cost forecasts, and trend analyses.
  6. Lead the estimating process and negotiate potential change orders.
  7. Conduct audits and ensure compliance for projects.
  8. Align program and project controls data with the fiscal and financial systems.
  9. Present cost analysis results to senior management and executive leadership.
  10. Prepare and deliver accurate and timely financial statements and reports.
  11. Ensure adherence to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and other regulatory standards.
  12. Develop and uphold financial policies and procedures to maintain effective internal controls.
  13. Manage budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
  14. Collaborate with executive leadership to perform financial analyses, identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost efficiency.
  15. Work alongside project managers and executives to provide financial insights that support decision-making.
  16. Coordinate audits and manage relationships with external auditors and financial institutions.
  17. Assist the finance and accounting team in fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
