Food Recovery and Distribution Specialist

About the RoleWe are seeking a highly motivated Food Recovery and Distribution Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for driving a defined route daily to collect, inspect, and deliver perishable and nonperishable food products to community organizations. As the face of our organization, you will maintain positive relationships with vendors, beneficiaries, and the community, ensuring seamless operations and efficient delivery of our mission.
Key Responsibilities:- Operate a medium-duty truck safely, adhering to all Spoonfuls safety protocols, US Department of Transportation regulations, and Massachusetts Department of Transportation guidelines.
- Collect prepared, perishable, and other rescued foods from retail stores, farms, and wholesale partners, reporting any issues or concerns to the supervisor promptly.
- Inspect donated products following food safety guidelines, refusing items that do not meet criteria.
- Deliver food to community organizations, communicating effectively with the supervisor about any problems or issues.
- Maintain accurate records of collections and distributions, submitting weekly reports in a timely manner.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with partners and Spoonfuls staff.
- A clean motor vehicle record (MVR) with no accidents in the past three years.
- Possession of or ability to obtain a current DOT physical card per state and federal regulations.
- Effective customer service skills.
- Ability to learn computerized data input technology.
- Flexibility to work between driving duties in the community and in-office responsibilities at Spoonfuls.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate to diverse groups.
- English language proficiency.
- Able to obtain a safe food handling license (ServSafe).
- Stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, climb in and out of a dock-high vehicle, talk, and hear clearly.
- Perform moderate to heavy physical labor (lift or maneuver up to 50 lbs repeatedly and load/unload approximately 2,000-3,000 lbs daily).
- Navigate the Boston metro area using GPS.
The estimated salary for this role is $45,000-$55,000 annually, depending on experience, based on similar positions in the Boston area. This is a full-time position, requiring availability from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with minimum 36 hours worked per week. Please note that this job requires occasional exposure to contaminants, hot/cold temperatures, and whole body vibration during driving.
