Position: Lead Food Innovation Technologist
Location: Hybrid
The Lead Food Innovation Technologist will spearhead the creation and market introduction of new savory snack flavors and seasonings. This role involves close collaboration with suppliers and cross-functional teams, including production, commercialization, procurement, and subject matter experts, to assess, enhance, and validate both new and existing ingredients, technologies, and processes. Leveraging comprehensive food science expertise, you will identify opportunities for product and process enhancements, including ingredient modifications, quality improvements, supply chain initiatives, and technological advancements.
Your Contributions:
Provide expert guidance, direction, and support in the development and market launch of high-quality snack food products.
- Oversee seasoning development by coordinating projects with various seasoning suppliers to meet sales and productivity objectives.
- Collaborate with external partners to source materials, address challenges, and foster ongoing product innovation.
- Plan, manage, and execute the stages of product formulation and seasoning development.
- Exhibit excellence in project management by optimizing resource use to ensure timely project completion.
- Maintain precise and effective research and development documentation, including version control for new formulations and ingredient evaluations.
- Simultaneously manage multiple projects for various clients.
- Conduct and support sensory evaluations, including consumer panels and competitive assessments.
- Execute plant trials to assess new product concepts and ingredients, adhering to established protocols.
- Stay informed on regulatory and technological developments impacting the food sector.
- Provide operational leadership to resolve product and processing challenges.
- Assess technical risks associated with new product initiatives.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret relevant data.
- Implement best practices and standard operating procedures for shelf-life studies and product evaluations, identifying areas for quality enhancement.
- Assist the sourcing team in selecting and procuring ingredients.
- Support the quality assurance team in meeting company and industry standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that achieve cost savings without compromising taste or quality.
- Utilize TraceGains to manage the development of new products, ensuring compliance with quality assurance standards.
- Work with cross-functional teams to explore new food capabilities and growth opportunities.
- Mentor team members to enhance their effectiveness and prepare them for future roles.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Food Science or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- 7-10 years of experience in the food industry, particularly in consumer product development and innovation.
- Proficient in TraceGains.
- Experience with Genesis or similar tools for ingredient and nutritional panel creation.
- Ability to evaluate regulatory and marketing packaging claims.
- Familiarity with stage-gate new product development processes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, with strong organizational skills for managing complex technical details.
- Experience in customer and consumer research is a plus.
- Willingness to travel as needed for business purposes.
