Job Overview

Gordon Feinblatt LLC is seeking a highly skilled Controller to lead our Accounting Team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial operations management, with a focus on client service, continuous learning, and innovation.

The Controller will be responsible for overseeing the firm's financial systems, including revenue cycle, expense cycle, treasury functions, and general accounting. This includes managing the client intake process, billing, accounts receivable, payroll, accounts payable, cash and debt management, and escrow account management.

The successful candidate will have excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with the team and prioritize assignments. They will also be committed to quality and customer service, with a focus on delivering exceptional results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directing activities of six Accounting Department staff, providing leadership, mentoring, and training within the department.
  • Implementing and maintaining required internal financial and operational controls.
  • Maintaining books and records using the income tax basis of accounting.
  • Ensuring the monthly close process is completed accurately and within the monthly close cycle.
  • Preparing monthly account reconciliations.
  • Preparing and maintaining Member draw schedules, distribution worksheets, and reviewing Member compensation.
  • Overseeing firm's compliance reviews, attestation, and specific-purpose audits by financial institutions, regulatory agencies, and clients.
  • Managing the firm's trust and escrow account activities.
  • Optimizing the handling of firm banking and financial institution relationships.
  • Building strong, cross-functional relationships to support the firm's operational needs.

The Controller will work closely with the Executive Director and Director of Finance to support the firm's financial reporting, budgeting, and financial analyses initiatives, as well as to maintain the integrity of the firm's financial systems.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related field required.
  • CPA required.
  • MBA preferred.
  • Law firm experience required.
  • Hands-on experience optimizing the use of financial, accounting, and associated reporting systems. Experience with Aderant preferred.
  • Requires a minimum of eight years accounting operations management experience.
  • Proven ability to enhance strategic firm relationships, including relationships with clients, service providers, partners, and employees.
  • High level of leadership, interpersonal, and collaboration skills. Strong team player with excellent diplomacy and influential skills.
  • Ideal candidate will be expected to contribute to the firm's ongoing process automation and improvement initiatives.
  • Willingness to be hands-on in certain day-to-day accounting operations.
