About the Role

History Associates is seeking a skilled Historical Researcher to join our team. As a Research Historian, you will be responsible for conducting extensive primary and secondary source research, writing research reports, and presenting findings to clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct Historical Research: Conduct historical research at various repositories, including government, university, and local archives, both in-person and online.
  • Extract Key Information: Recognize and extract key information obtained from historical sources.
  • Collaborate with Teams: Work within a project team in various positions, following up on leads and ensuring timely receipt of requested information.
  • Client Communication: Coordinate and communicate with clients, executing research plans and procedures.
  • Write Research Reports: Draft written summaries, exhibit copy, and research reports.
Requirements
  • Education: BA/BS/MA in history or other research and writing fields.
  • Experience: Demonstrated experience conducting research in federal, state, and local government repositories, including National Archives facilities and the Library of Congress.
  • Skills: Ability to work independently and in teams, thorough, organized, and detail-oriented, solution-oriented and resourceful, ability to write clearly, concisely, and accurately, flexibility to work with complex client demands and shifting priorities.
  • Personal Qualities: Ability to foster successful relationships with clients, team members, and records managers, willingness to learn, interest in a wide range of topics, and a curiosity to explore new topics.
