Position Overview

We are looking for an inquisitive and driven Historical Research Specialist to conduct comprehensive primary and secondary source investigations, compile research reports, and present findings to our clients. This role will primarily focus on projects related to Exhibits and Interpretive Planning as well as Litigation Research. It presents an excellent opportunity for recent graduates to gain valuable experience in the historical research field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct historical research across various repositories, including government, university, and local sources, both in-person and online.
  • Identify and extract critical information from historical documents.
  • Collaborate within a project team, taking on various roles as needed.
  • Follow up on leads to ensure timely receipt of requested information.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with clients.
  • Implement research plans and methodologies.
  • Draft written summaries, exhibit content, and detailed research reports.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS/MA in history or related fields emphasizing research and writing.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5.
  • Proven experience in conducting research within federal, state, and local government repositories, including National Archives and the Library of Congress.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in teams.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and thorough in approach.
  • Resourceful and solution-focused.
  • Strong written communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and accurately.
  • Flexibility to adapt to complex client needs and changing priorities.
  • Proficient in building successful relationships with clients, team members, and records managers.
  • Willingness to learn and explore a wide range of topics.
  • Ability to work in diverse environments, including on-site at repositories and remotely.
  • Strong computer and technological skills.
