Position Overview: This role is responsible for ensuring adherence to relevant regulations, policies, and the Fair Labor Standards Act. Under minimal supervision, oversee, organize, and direct programs, activities, and personnel at a recreation center, reporting directly to the Recreation Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform supervisory tasks including instructing, assigning, and reviewing work, planning, maintaining standards, coordinating activities, and recommending disciplinary actions as necessary.
  • Ensure safe operating conditions for the recreation center, playgrounds, fields, and park equipment, enforcing all safety protocols in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Munis, Rec Trac, or other relevant recreation software.
  • Develop, organize, implement, and sustain recreation programs tailored to meet the needs of community members.
  • Manage financial transactions for all fee-based programs.
  • Coordinate and assist in the transportation of program participants to various locations.
  • Organize and promote athletic activities, including intramural programs, sports camps, and award ceremonies.
  • Assist in planning and executing training sessions, workshops, and personnel development activities.
  • Prepare schedules for tournaments and manage paperwork for athletic field permits.
  • Ensure cleanliness and safety of facilities, fields, and athletic equipment.
  • Oversee maintenance and preparation of all athletic fields.
  • Conduct safety inspections of fields and athletic equipment.
  • Monitor the operation of powered equipment as required.
  • Maintain an inventory of sports, athletic, and recreational equipment.
  • Complete and submit work orders as necessary.
  • Coordinate and oversee facility rentals for events such as meetings and parties.
  • Process and monitor all contractual programs.
  • May serve as a liaison on city boards and committees.
  • Attend supervisor meetings, professional seminars, and workshops as required.
  • Assist in developing facility budgets and monitoring expenditures.
  • Promote community awareness of park and recreation activities through various outreach methods.
  • Prepare and manage various facility reports and records as required.
  • Maintain an inventory of equipment, materials, and supplies, ordering as necessary.
  • Exhibit superior customer service, integrity, fiscal responsibility, and a commitment to innovation and efficiency.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Physical Education, Public Administration, or a minimum of four years of experience in recreation or physical education, or two years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Preferred certification from FRPA or equivalent professional organization; active involvement in professional associations is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of The Children Trust program is preferred.
  • First Aid and CPR certification for adults and children/infants is required.
  • Familiarity with departmental policies, procedures, and practices relevant to the position.
  • Understanding of recreation programming, scheduling, and implementation processes.
  • Knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques.
  • Ability to provide guidance, instruction, and coaching to staff and the public.
  • Familiarity with various equipment and tools relevant to the position.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Strong organizational, supervisory, and interpersonal skills.
  • Physical ability to perform essential functions, including prolonged standing or sitting, lifting moderate weights, and operating office equipment.
