Job Overview

The Senior Research Analyst, under general supervision, oversees the execution of programs and research initiatives, which includes strategizing, organizing, staffing, guiding, and managing program and research project activities. This role also entails leading an autonomous research initiative.

The selected candidate will be responsible for developing and overseeing programs related to the Rio Grande Colonias USDA Regional Food Business Center. Responsibilities may encompass establishing a competitive grant initiative, creating training programs that support food business growth, crafting and submitting funding proposals, and implementing a mentorship initiative for food business proprietors. This position is funded through grants, and its continuation is dependent on grant availability.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Formulates program goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensures the achievement of program objectives.
  • Identifies and secures funding and resources for program expansion.
  • Assesses program processes and performance metrics.
  • Supervises and directs program personnel.
  • Develops, manages, and approves program budgets.
  • Analyzes program data for reporting, monitoring progress, and making necessary adjustments.
  • Prepares data for publication and presentation purposes.
  • Writes grants and proposals to secure external funding.
  • Maintains records of program activities and submits monthly progress reports.
  • Designs, conducts, and evaluates experiments in line with project goals.
  • Engages in independent research that aligns with the mission of the TAMUS member.
  • Mentors students in data analysis and result preparation.
  • Implements procedures to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of data collection and analysis.
  • Identifies, compiles, and synthesizes data required for computational models and manages databases related to statistical software.
  • Stays updated on the latest hardware and software technologies for statistical and numerical data analysis.
  • Remains informed on scientific research through literature review.
  • Participates in scientific meetings and seminars for research development.
  • Manages interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary projects and research dissemination teams.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Ph.D. in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Six years of relevant experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent public speaking, organizational, leadership, and supervisory abilities.
  • Attention to detail and sound judgment.
  • Ability to multitask and collaborate effectively with others.
  • Collaborative leadership and community engagement skills.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills, both verbal and written, are preferred.
  • Experience with projects related to food accessibility.
  • Understanding of small business development.
