Role Summary:
The Financial Assistance Specialist is responsible for executing a range of intricate tasks associated with the evaluation and processing of patient financial assistance applications. Key responsibilities include adhering to the Patient Financial Assistance policy, assessing patients for financial aid and NC Medicaid eligibility, facilitating patient registration for newcomers, addressing patient inquiries regarding the program, and managing customer service requests through the designated platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect financial assistance applications along with relevant financial documentation. Digitally archive and categorize patient documents into the Epic financial assistance system received through various channels.
- Establish precise patient registration records in Epic for new patients who submit financial assistance applications prior to receiving care.
- Evaluate and determine the outcomes of Patient Financial Assistance applications. Scrutinize and validate income documentation to accurately assess applicable income and assets in accordance with policy. Communicate promptly with patients regarding the status and results of their applications.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of processing activities and patient communications within the Epic Financial Assistance Module.
- Engage effectively with patients via phone, messaging platforms, or in person to assess Medicaid eligibility, gather additional documentation, and respond to inquiries about the program and other payment alternatives.
- Examine cases for catastrophic charity care eligibility that have been denied under the traditional financial assistance program.
- Collaborate with various hospital departments, clinics, and community organizations to expedite the processing of financial assistance applications as necessary.
- Address customer relationship management inquiries from patients regarding the financial assistance program and their applications.
Education Requirements:
* High School diploma or GED
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
* None required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
* Minimum of two (2) years of experience in hospital or clinical services access, billing, and collections.
Preferred Experience:
- Two (2) years of experience in roles related to Hospital or Physician Revenue Cycle (Authorization, Billing, Follow-Up, Patient Access, Call-Center, or Collections).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong listening and organizational capabilities.
- Advanced proficiency in analyzing financial documentation and data.
- Familiarity with insurance billing, collections, and terminology.
- Aptitude for thriving in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks independently.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Comprehension of and adherence to policies and procedures.
