Position Overview

This role is pivotal in spearheading collaborative scientific efforts aimed at revolutionizing the Australian Grains Genebank (AGG) through advanced digital and genomic methodologies. The AGG serves as the national repository for grain crop genetic resources, tasked with the acquisition, preservation, and distribution of these vital assets to enhance the development of resilient and productive grain varieties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage multidisciplinary research initiatives that yield innovative scientific outcomes.
  • Facilitate international collaborations leveraging genotype data to connect plant genetic resources with research and breeding insights.
  • Develop and implement strategies for integrating data across various genotyping platforms.
  • Establish interoperable data management systems and infrastructure for genebank resources.
  • Promote the objectives of the Strategic Partnership to a diverse range of stakeholders, both nationally and internationally.
  • Contribute significantly to scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals, both independently and collaboratively.

Qualifications and Skills

  • A PhD in population genetics, quantitative genetics, plant molecular genetics, or a related field is essential.
  • Demonstrated expertise in data analysis methods pertinent to genebank genomics and diversity analysis.
  • Extensive bioinformatics skills, including proficiency with command line tools and high-throughput computing environments.
  • A proven track record of peer-reviewed publications that reflect substantial contributions to scientific advancement.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience in mentoring and supervising research students, fostering their professional growth.

Work Environment

This position is based within a leading biosciences research center, where you will collaborate closely with a team of over 60 scientists specializing in plant genetic resources and applied genomics.
