Position Overview: The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action is seeking a dedicated Research Scientist to join our Microbiology team. This role focuses on advancing research in the fields of plant and animal bacteriology and virology, emphasizing biosecurity, diagnostics, and disease management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Research Leader and Senior Research Scientist to lead projects aimed at enhancing diagnostic processes for horticultural seeds.
- Develop and implement high-throughput sequencing (HTS) methodologies for the identification of seed-borne pathogens.
- Conduct both laboratory and field research, ensuring the preparation of milestone reports and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Provide training to end-users on the methodologies established during the project.
- Assist in supervising PhD candidates, contributing to their academic development.
Qualifications:
- A PhD in plant microbiology or a related field is essential.
- Proven expertise in applied microbiology research, particularly in HTS techniques.
- A strong publication record in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey research findings to stakeholders.
Work Environment: This position offers flexible working arrangements within a multidisciplinary team that engages in diverse research activities across Microbial Sciences, Pests, and Diseases.
