Job Title: Recovery Peer Advocate

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Recovery Peer Advocate to join our SHERPA Program team.

The Opportunity

The SHERPA Program is a specially trained team of peer recovery coaches providing guidance to individuals and families navigating the Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment system.

As a Recovery Peer Advocate, you will engage people in strengths-based, trauma-informed peer support at the beginning stages of their individual recovery plans.

Responsibilities
  • Provide active listening, respectful motivational interviewing, and treatment of people as the strongest resource in their own recovery.
  • Educate participants about the reality and process of recovery, including options for treatment, harm reduction, and safety.
  • Provide systems advocacy and guidance to individuals as they navigate the substance use disorder treatment system.
  • Provide warm handoffs to treatment providers and/or recovery support services and other community resources.
  • Effectively communicate with family, community-based organizations, substance use treatment providers, and community support.
  • Document service utilization and outcomes with respect and confidentiality.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must obtain NYS Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA or CRPA-P) within 90 days of employment.
  • Knowledge of recovery and community resources.
  • At least 2 years working in a substance use or mental health recovery services as a provider or service recipient required.
  • Intermediate computer skills required.
  • Valid NYS driver's license with a safe and responsible driving history.
