JOB SUMMARY: Eocene Environmental Group is in search of an Archaeologist Crew Chief or Field Director. The ideal candidate must be permitted to supervise field operations and capable of managing small-scale cultural resource investigations (including survey, site documentation, testing, excavation, and monitoring) independently to ensure that deliverables align with client expectations and that all necessary field data is accurately collected.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions:
- Consistently produces a comprehensive desktop sensitivity analysis for multiple locations without errors.
- Creates detailed and accurate DPR 523 forms consistently.
- Conducts thorough research and authors specific sections of reports (covering topics such as mining, homesteading, settlement, and ethnography).
- Completes precise and consistent survey, monitoring, and DPR 523 forms.
- Supervises both large and small teams of archaeologists in the field.
- Demonstrates effective collaboration with construction teams.
- Oversees and trains field staff, ensuring quality assurance and quality control of field data.
- Possesses extensive experience in various aspects of fieldwork (including lithic analysis, prehistoric artifact identification, historic artifact analysis, and site documentation).
- Actively participates in and supports Eocene Environmental Group's commitment to safety and employee ownership.
- Adheres to all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Maintains regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Completion of coursework leading to a degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a related field:
- Crew Chief – bachelor's degree, completion of a field school, and 1 year of professional experience.
- Field Director – bachelor's degree, completion of a field school, 2 years of professional experience, and is permitted or qualified for agency permitting based on the SOI Professional Qualification Standards.
- A minimum of 2 years of field experience in California conducting archaeological work.
- Meets SOI PQS in archaeology (if MS or Ph.D.) or history (if BA/BS).
- Ability to oversee extensive field operations.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English to perform job duties and communicate effectively with employees and vendors.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Skilled in using tablets (Apple iPad or Samsung Galaxy) for documenting cultural resources.
- Experienced with sub-meter GPS receivers.
- Proficient in ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123 applications (for mobile devices).
- Permitted or eligible for permitting on BLM lands in California, Nevada, Oregon, and/or Washington (Field Director or Principal Investigator).
- Previous training in NHPA, NEPA, FERC, and/or other cultural or environmental protocols.
- Strong writing and editing capabilities.
- Ability to assess resources for NRHP-eligibility.
- Experience in authoring multiple archaeological site forms and inventory reports.
- Authored a master's thesis in a relevant field.
