Job Summary

The Technology Specialist plays a vital role in the day-to-day operations of the Learning Commons and Open Labs at South Texas College. This position requires a strong technical background, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot computer hardware and software systems.
  • Provide technical support to students, faculty, and staff, including assistance with software applications, hardware issues, and network connectivity.
  • Lead the deployment of software and hardware upgrades, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.
  • Develop and conduct workshops and training sessions on makerspace technologies, including 3D printing, laser cutting, and mixed reality.
  • Train users on the safe operation and maintenance of makerspace equipment.
  • Collaborate with department staff to develop and implement technology pilots, ensuring successful completion and adoption.
  • Assist in overseeing and supervising department operations, including opening and closing the Open Labs.
  • Address patron complaints and concerns in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Support the department's marketing and public relations efforts.
  • Prepare custom lab reports and maintain accurate records of equipment usage and maintenance.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in a computer-related field or equivalent experience.
  • At least two years of experience in a computer technical support position.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and Windows environment.
  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of personal computers, multimedia software, and audio-visual technology.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to customer service.
