Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to serve as the Director of the Center for Complex Systems at Florida Atlantic University. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership and vision for the Center, overseeing research and instructional activities and fostering a collaborative environment that promotes excellence in complex systems research and instruction throughout the College and the University.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for the Center, aligning with the University's goals and objectives
  • Oversee and coordinate interdisciplinary research projects within the Center, ensuring effective collaboration and knowledge sharing among faculty and researchers
  • Foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, encouraging faculty and students to pursue cutting-edge research and projects
  • Secure funding through grants, partnerships, and other sources to support the Center's activities and research initiatives
  • Represent the Center at national and international conferences, workshops, and meetings, promoting the University's research and academic excellence
  • Develop and maintain relationships with academic, industry, and government partners to promote strategic research collaborations and knowledge transfer
  • Mentor and support the professional development of faculty, researchers, and students, ensuring their growth and success in their careers
  • Ensure the dissemination of research findings through publications, presentations, and other channels, promoting the University's research impact and reputation
  • Manage the Center's budget and resources effectively, ensuring efficient use of resources and optimal outcomes
Requirements
  • PhD in a relevant field, such as biology, neuroscience, physics, mathematics, or psychology
  • Extensive experience in complex systems research and a strong publication record
  • Demonstrated ability to secure research funding and manage budgets
  • Proven leadership experience in an academic or research setting, with a track record of success in leading interdisciplinary teams and projects
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and teams
  • Strong organizational and management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in leading large, interdisciplinary research projects and securing significant funding
  • Familiarity with emerging trends and technologies in complex systems research, such as AI and machine learning
  • Established network of contacts within the academic, industry, and government sectors, with a strong reputation for collaboration and knowledge sharing
