Seeking a skilled Lead Financial Reporting Specialist to join our team at NJ TRANSIT. As the third-largest transportation agency in North America, we're committed to delivering safe, reliable service and striving for excellence in all aspects of our operations.

In this role, you will play a crucial part in transforming our financial reporting processes, ensuring accuracy, and maintaining compliance with GAAP, GAAS, and applicable GASB rules.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate and manage the timely preparation of internal and external financial reports, including the annual report, footnotes, and cash flow statement.
  • Interact with departments within the company and external auditors to collect supporting schedules and follow up on their progress.
  • Direct the development and preparation of the financial section of the Annual Report, including management's discussion and analysis.
  • Assist in overseeing the preparation of work papers and financial statements for defined contribution and defined benefit pension plans, ensuring timely completion and coordination with outside audit firms.
  • Review year-end workpapers for the statement of net position, changes in statement of net position, and cash flow statement, following up with auditors on supporting schedules.
  • Compile and prepare 'Notes to Consolidated Financial Statements' for the NJ TRANSIT annual report, ensuring all footnotes are supported by appropriate work papers and agree with published financial statement figures.
  • Conduct special research and prepare unique presentations for upper management as required, using PowerPoint or analytical analysis for internal or external audiences.
  • Manage National Transportation Database reports and follow up on year-over-year analysis explanations.
  • Prepare indirect cost rates to obtain FTA approval, researching federal super circulars and OMB new rules and regulations, communicating with independent auditors on justifications.
  • Perform assigned duties during monthly closes, including journal entry preparation, transaction processing, and research into significant budget variances.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, minimum 6 years of experience in financial statement and footnote preparation.
  • Knowledge of computerized financial systems, Oracle General Ledger, and proficiency in general PC and office software applications.
  • CPA firm experience is preferred but not mandatory.

Salary and Benefits:

We offer a competitive salary of $80,000 - $110,000 per year, commensurate with experience, and an excellent benefits package that includes comprehensive health insurance, flexible spending account, life insurance, paid leave, tuition assistance, pre-tax commuter benefits plan, and retirement plans (401(a), 401(k), and 457(b)).
