JOB SUMMARY
The Cost Estimation Specialist possesses a strong understanding of various metal fabrication techniques and methodologies. This role requires the ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately, engage suppliers effectively to optimize turnaround times, and evaluate the fairness and reasonableness of supplier pricing. The specialist will analyze received pricing, compare it against established targets, and identify any price discrepancies.

In collaboration with Manufacturing Engineering, the Cost Estimation Specialist will review the Bill of Materials (BOM) to ensure precision before dispatching Requests for Quotes (RFQs).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure timely processing of RFQs to suppliers, including sending quote packages and following up with suppliers while compiling the Cost Bill of Materials (CBOM).
- Act as the primary liaison, collaborating closely with pricing and manufacturing engineering to manage RFQs effectively.
- Work in conjunction with purchasing leads and buyers to align buying strategies during the proposal phase.
- Identify and address anomalies in the BOM by communicating with design and manufacturing engineering to minimize potential delays.
- Foster a collaborative team environment, engaging with all management levels while demonstrating exceptional communication skills.
- Knowledge of machining, sheet metal fabrication, chemical processes, aerospace hardware, and electrical assemblies is advantageous.
- Stay informed about the latest technologies and methodologies in the defense sector through seminars, online courses, and industry publications.
- Familiarity with Federal Acquisition Regulations and DFAR compliance requirements, price analysis, and documentation is beneficial.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems is a plus.
- Background in manufacturing, particularly in defense, automotive, or medical sectors, is preferred.

REQUIREMENTS
- Must be a US Person: US Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident.
- Must be fully vaccinated (proof of vaccination will be required).

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S./BSc) from an accredited institution or equivalent; along with 5 to 7 years of relevant experience and/or training.

The Purchasing department operates in a dynamic environment, necessitating strong organizational skills, efficient time management, the ability to thrive under pressure, and the capability to handle multiple projects while consistently meeting deadlines. Experience in a high-mix, low-volume aerospace/defense manufacturing context is preferred. Understanding of UCC/FAR and DFAR requirements is desired. Knowledge of purchasing processes, policies, and manufacturing practices is essential. Direct experience in procuring machined components, sheet metal fabrication, MIL-SPEC hardware, and metal finishes is required. Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings and specifications is mandatory. Strong negotiation skills are essential.
