Job Overview

The SMS Safety Engineer at GE Aviation is accountable for achieving functional, business, and overarching company objectives. Key Responsibilities

The SMS Safety Engineer will oversee training, advocacy, risk management, compliance, policy formulation, procedural development, regulatory engagement, and metrics related to our Safety Management System.


As part of your role, you will:
1. Lead the theory, design, and practical application of safety engineering methodologies for equipment and devices.
2. Implement processes to identify and mitigate safety risks associated with product design to acceptable levels; conduct thorough safety risk assessments and hazard evaluations, applying human factors principles to enhance design and minimize human error during product operation and maintenance.
3. Manage personnel, including staffing and performance development, leveraging your extensive technical knowledge and analytical skills to execute policy and strategy effectively.
4. Stay informed about best practices and understand how your area of expertise integrates with others, while being aware of competitive factors that differentiate our offerings in the market.


Utilize sound judgment and creativity to propose solutions that address complex manufacturing processes with technical diversity and interdependent production cycles. Act as a resource for less experienced colleagues and may lead small projects with manageable risks and resource needs. Clearly communicate performance expectations and navigate sensitive issues with professionalism.


Qualifications

Required:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in Systems Engineering.

Preferred:
- Master's degree in science or engineering from an accredited institution.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership abilities.
- Proven capability to document, plan, market, and manage programs that enhance the knowledge and skills of the business.
- Proficient in problem analysis and resolution.
- Demonstrated leadership in establishing industry standards in at least one technical specialty, with the ability to educate and set best practices within the field.
