Responsibilities:

Position Summary:


The Certified Surgical Specialist plays a vital role in patient care within the surgical environment, collaborating effectively as a member of the healthcare team.

This position involves adhering to established standards in Surgical Services, ensuring optimal care for patients.


This role is represented by SEIU, Local 1107, and is governed by the relevant collective bargaining agreement.


Qualifications:

Minimum:
At least one (1) year of recent full-time experience in an acute care setting as a certified surgical specialist.


Experience in an Ambulatory Surgery Center performing procedures with similar acuity or complexity to acute care is also considered.

Completion of high school or an equivalent program is required.

Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technologist program with certification is necessary.

Continuing education in Surgical Technology is required, with 15 units earned annually as mandated by NBSTSA.

Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from AHA is essential.

Certification as a Surgical Technologist through NBSTSA is required.


Employees in this position prior to a specific date may be exempt from obtaining NBSTSA certification.

Please note that ongoing competency certification in Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) is required post-hire, utilizing internal resources for compliance.


Preferred:


One year of recent full-time experience in an acute care environment as a certified surgical specialist, including exposure to trauma and open-heart procedures.

Certification is mandatory.

Preference for CST certification through NBSTSA, though compliance with current state statutes may allow for grandfathering in certain cases.
