Student Assistant: Administrative Assistant

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a front-facing, administrative support role for the Student Affairs Unit within the division of Student Success at The New School. As a Student Assistant, you will serve as the first contact with visitors to the Student Affairs office and create a welcoming environment. You will be part of a team that coordinates operations of the front desk and leads administrative tasks.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic about customer service, engaging visitor experiences, higher education, and administrative operations. You should have excellent communication skills, including interpersonal, written, and verbal communication. The ideal candidate will also have collaboration skills and be able to work well with diverse populations.

In this role, you will:
  • Serve as the initial point of contact and Student Affairs representative for students, parents/families, and staff.
  • Oversee the daily functionality and operation of the Student Affairs front desk and common spaces.
  • Exhibit high levels of professionalism in customer service.
  • Greet visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Answer the phone and manage incoming voicemail.
Work mode is on-campus, and employees are expected to work during regularly scheduled work hours due to the nature of the work being not feasible or not in the best interest of the organization to be performed remotely. Salary range is $17/hour, based on current data from similar positions in the New York City area.

To be eligible for this position, you must be a currently enrolled New School student who qualifies for Federal Work Study. You should also be able to demonstrate collaboration skills, ability to work independently, and maintain deadlines, accuracy, and competing priorities while handling confidential information with utmost discretion.
