Job Summary:
This role operates within the agency's vision, mission, and philosophy to offer support and coaching to caregivers, while also providing a parental perspective in various contexts. The position fosters a shared understanding based on the twelve principles of the agency's service philosophy. By leveraging personal and professional experiences, the individual will establish credibility, instill hope for a better future, demonstrate unconditional acceptance, and assist in problem-solving. The role promotes family-friendly practices by integrating a parent's viewpoint into routine operations and program development. It includes consultation and training for staff to enhance awareness and effectiveness in parent-professional partnerships. Participation in community meetings is essential to amplify parent voice, choice, access, and involvement throughout the service delivery process.

  • Utilizes personal and professional experiences to provide peer support to parents and caregivers.
  • Offers information regarding the agency's processes and the Family Partner I role.
  • Engages in support services for parents/caregivers (e.g., family events, recognition events).
  • Guides families in decision-making and planning based on their needs.
  • Collaborates in Child and Family Team (CFT) meetings to ensure access, voice, and choice.
  • Identifies community connections for internal teams.
  • Acts as a consultant to facilitate understanding between families and service providers.
  • Provides non-judgmental, culturally sensitive support.
  • Explores and works to (re)establish natural support systems as necessary.
  • Models and coaches effective coping strategies.
  • Contributes a caregiver's perspective within agency support structures.
  • Assists in designing and implementing training focused on the parental perspective.
  • Employs conflict resolution skills.
  • Engages in continuous learning related to youth and family engagement.
  • Effectively manages and maintains a schedule.
  • Produces and keeps accurate documentation.

Other Duties:

  • Traveling to appointments with clients and their families.
  • Engaging in physical interactions with children of varying ages.

Education Requirements:
A High School Diploma or GED is required.

Preferred Education:
Some college education is preferred.

Experience Requirements:
A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a parent or caregiver of a child with special needs, with the ability to articulate the experiences and perspectives of a parent/caregiver of a child with complex needs.

Highly Desirable Qualifications:
Proficiency in speaking, reading, and/or writing another language is preferred.

Other Specific Requirements:
Must successfully pass DOJ, FBI, and CAIC background checks. A valid California Driver's license with a minimum of two years' experience and a clean driving record is required.
