Job Summary

This position is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) role, requiring the incumbent to maintain their active membership in the AF Reserve unit where assigned. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an ART performing duties such as removing, installing, adjusting, aligning, inspecting, troubleshooting, and performing final functional and operational tests on various aircraft systems, their assemblies, and components.

Responsibilities
  • Perform inspection and troubleshooting on aircraft systems, their assemblies, and components in accordance with technical orders and specifications.
  • Position, maintain, disassemble, repair, and reassemble aircraft systems, their assemblies, and components in accordance with technical orders and specifications.
  • Accomplish aircraft maintenance and equipment record keeping, both manual and automated, associated with aircraft maintenance and repair.
  • Utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations, and maintain a safe and clean work area.
  • Verify and certify work processes and procedures and adequacy of work accomplished by certified co-workers and trainees.
Requirements

This is an obligated position, and the incumbent is subject to being displaced from this position under 10 U.S.C. upon the employee's return. Every effort will be made to find an equivalent position for the incumbent at the same grade for which they qualify within the commuting area without loss of seniority, status, or tenure.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Family. The screen-out element for this position is the ability to perform the work of an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC with little or no supervision.

Qualifications

The incumbent must possess knowledge of the make-up, operation, installation, and adjustment of various interrelated and/or integrated aircraft systems, subsystems, and assemblies. They must also have knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures, as well as skill in the use of standard and specialized tools and test equipment.

The incumbent must be able to rig, operationally test, and/or troubleshoot systems, determine when they are operating properly or whether portions of the system should be repaired or replaced, and the type and extent of adjustment and alignment needed.

Working Conditions

The work is performed in hangar areas, outdoors, in aircraft, and sometimes in hazardous noise areas. The incumbent must work in confined areas and in awkward positions, and may be exposed to bodily fluids, dirt, grease, and aircraft fluids.

The incumbent may be required to fly in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments (TDY) away from the normal duty station. They may also be required to work overtime to meet workload demands.
