The City of Dover is looking for a dedicated individual to undertake essential responsibilities in managing a municipal gymnasium and weight training center. This role is part-time and seasonal, requiring availability during evenings and weekends, with an expected commitment of 25 to 30 hours weekly. Compensation is set at $13.27 per hour.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle payments for memberships, activity sign-ups, and daily usage of the facility.
- Address public inquiries regarding recreational programs via phone, written communication, or in-person interactions. Foster interest and disseminate information about recreational offerings to community service organizations, other departments, and the public.
- Perform various administrative tasks such as answering phones, processing activity registrations, entering data into facility management software, verifying memberships, collecting payments, and overseeing the general use of the facility.
- Conduct cleaning and maintenance tasks as required or requested for the gymnasium and associated facilities.
- Open and close designated recreational facilities, ensuring security for gym areas including weight and cardio rooms, locker rooms, and meeting spaces.
- Potentially lead and officiate different sports programs if qualified. Operate the score clock as needed.
- Maintain equipment and supplies in accordance with budgetary constraints.
- Establish and nurture effective working relationships with colleagues, other departments, and the community.
- Stay informed about and adhere to safe work practices related to assigned duties.
- Perform additional related tasks as necessary.
Considerable knowledge of sports, recreation, and leisure activities suitable for all age groups. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential. Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions and comply with departmental rules and regulations. Proficiency in handling cash transactions and providing change. Capability to articulate ideas effectively in both spoken and written formats. Ability to guide and instruct others in various work techniques and methods. Must be in good physical condition.
Education and Certifications
Prior experience in a related field or a position involving public interaction, particularly in recreation, physical education, or a similar area, along with cashiering experience. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. Certification in First Aid and CPR/AED is preferred.
