The Solar Electrical Supervisor is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of large-scale photovoltaic (PV) systems in commercial and industrial settings while providing guidance and mentorship to team members. The role encompasses a wide range of knowledge, from the direct current (DC) installation of solar panels to the setup and wiring of inverters and alternating current (AC) combiner panels. Frequent travel may be required, up to 75% of the time.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Skills:
Precisely install racking systems, PV modules, wiring, conduits, inverters, DC/AC combiners, and circuit breakers in accordance with project specifications and National Electrical Code (NEC) standards.
Install electrical distribution and automation apparatus, including switchgear, panels, and transformers.
Demonstrate proficiency in circuitry, including DC and AC power, control systems, and motor terminations.
Utilize hand tools and bending equipment for conduit installation.
Capable of trench excavation using both manual and powered tools.
Leadership and Mentorship:
Deliver on-the-job training and mentorship to junior electricians and apprentices, fostering their professional development.
Oversee and coordinate the activities of electricians and other personnel on-site, ensuring timely completion of tasks according to project specifications.
Maintain effective communication with project managers and stakeholders to provide updates on project status and address any issues.
Keep accurate records of project documentation, including:
- Daily work logs detailing tasks performed, materials utilized, and progress achieved.
- Time sheets and attendance records for team members.
- Inventory logs for materials and equipment.
- Change orders and documentation related to project modifications.
- Reports on safety incidents and investigations.
- As-built drawings and project closure documentation.
Ensure the availability of necessary tools, materials, and equipment on-site as required.

Qualifications and Requirements:
To excel in this role, candidates must effectively perform each essential duty.
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with prior supervisory or foreman experience are highly valued.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written, verbal, and nonverbal forms.
Proficiency in critical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving.
Self-motivated with strong organizational and prioritization skills.
Advanced capability to read and interpret blueprints, single-line diagrams, schematics, technical manuals, contracts, and procedures.
Ability to comprehend instructions, procedures, labels, and gauges.
Competence in performing basic mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, fractions, decimals, multiplication, and division, as well as measurements.
Thorough knowledge of NEC and OSHA standards and guidelines.
A technical degree, along with 3-5 years of relevant experience, extensive mechanical aptitude, or a combination of education and experience is required.
Preferred certifications or experience in the following areas:
- Journeyman or Master Electrician certification/license
- NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners)
- OSHA certifications
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Machine Operator (lull, mini-excavator, etc.)
The physical demands outlined here represent those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
While fulfilling the duties of this role, the employee is regularly required to communicate effectively. The employee frequently stands, walks, climbs, lifts, and carries up to 60 lbs, crawls, kneels, pushes, and reaches; utilizes hands for handling and feeling. As solar arrays are installed in various environments, the employee must be capable of climbing ladders and enduring direct exposure to sunlight for extended periods.
Work Environment:
In performing the duties of this position, the employee is predominantly exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The employee may frequently encounter fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction sites, where noise levels can be high. This position is primarily conducted outdoors.
