Job Title: Police Officer PT

Spelman College is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Police Officer to join our team. As a Police Officer, you will be responsible for providing routine police services, including protection of life and property, foot and motorized patrol of assigned areas, and enforcement of state laws, city ordinances, and College rules and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the safety and security of Spelman College staff, facilities, students, and visitors.
  • Enforce campus rules and regulations.
  • Exercise powers of arrest under provisions of current Georgia law.
  • Conduct investigations, collect evidence, and testify in court.
  • Function as a communications dispatcher, answering phones and short wave radios, and perform related clerical tasks.
  • Conduct foot and/or motorized patrols of assigned areas.
  • Write incident reports and interview victims and witnesses.
  • Enforce traffic laws, rules, and regulations.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent plus current certification as a Peace Officer under Georgia P.O.S.T. guidelines at the time of employment.
  • Ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively to determine the proper course of action and maintain a high degree of self-discipline.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with the public and fellow employees.
  • Ability to accurately identify the correct criminal violations and utilize appropriate criminal procedures to bring charges when violations of law exist.
  • Good communication skills to express ideas clearly and obtain accurate information through interview, interrogation, and observations.
  • Ability to understand and execute difficult oral and written instructions.
  • Written communication skills to prepare comprehensive records and reports.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certifications, Licenses, Restrictions
  • Current certification as a Peace Officer under Georgia P.O.S.T. guidelines at the time of employment.
  • Current valid Georgia driver's license.
Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle office supplies, operate computer and other office equipment, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, climb, taste and smell, and lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Ability to physically defend him/herself, others, and to effect the apprehension of criminal suspects, or those whose conduct is in violation of college rules or regulations and represents a danger to others.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
