Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our Family Practice team at Advocate Health. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our healthcare professionals in delivering high-quality services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for exams by obtaining vital signs and gathering relevant health information.
  • Perform laboratory procedures, such as strep tests and wound cultures, using aseptic technique and standard precautions.
  • Assist physicians and advanced practice clinicians with procedures, including pelvic exams and allergy testing.
  • Administer medications, under physician orders or medical group-approved standing orders, which may include immunizations, antibiotics, and topical agents.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other healthcare team members to ensure smooth clinic flow.
  • Perform basic and advanced clinical support tasks, such as phlebotomy, EKGs, and spirometry, under clinical supervision.
Requirements
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 45 days.
  • GED or HS Equivalency Diploma.
  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Assistant, or 2 years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years.
  • Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop rapport and maintain positive relationships with patients, team members, and physicians.
Working Conditions

This role requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday. The ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance is also required. Patient handling equipment is expected to be used when necessary, with at least one other team member, when available.
