Job Overview

Position Summary
AKS Engineering & Forestry is on the lookout for a dedicated civil engineer to fill the role of Project Manager in our Tualatin, Oregon office. This pivotal position is centered around spearheading the advancement of our public works and transportation design services tailored for local governments. The selected candidate will collaborate closely with our leadership team and various task leads on a diverse array of projects across the region. This role is particularly suited for a licensed professional capable of taking charge of project designs and managing them independently. Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate

  • At least 10 years of experience in civil engineering design pertaining to public sector projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field (mandatory).
  • Possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Oregon or Washington (mandatory).
  • Proven ability to identify and pursue business development opportunities.
  • Experience managing projects with local or state agencies in Oregon or Washington.
  • Familiarity with local regulations and agency standards.
  • Basic knowledge of financial reporting, effective time management, and the ability to lead a multidisciplinary team with a positive and adaptable approach.
  • Essential civil engineering technical skills, including strong organizational capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in proposal and report writing.
  • Self-driven, proactive, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work efficiently, handle multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Commitment to delivering quality work within established budgets and timelines.
  • Experience or training in project management.
  • Familiarity with Civil 3D and/or MicroStation/InRoads design software.
  • Experience working with local or state agencies in Oregon.
  • Valid US driver's license.

Key Responsibilities
This full-time role focuses on providing design engineering for a variety of projects, including residential, industrial, commercial, educational, recreational, transportation, and public works. Working alongside a Principal, the following responsibilities will be undertaken:

  • Identify and cultivate new client relationships and business opportunities.
  • Oversee and mentor engineering staff.
  • Lead and engage in the development of proposals for public sector projects.
  • Coordinate and manage project activities with principals and team members.
  • Define and manage project scope to ensure timely and budget-compliant delivery.
  • Provide technical guidance to the project design team.
  • Design, prepare, and oversee the creation of preliminary and final plans and specifications.
  • Conduct quality assurance and quality control reviews of project deliverables.
  • Manage all aspects of the project from proposal through to construction.
  • Execute site and infrastructure design in accordance with local standards, ensuring effective communication with jurisdictional planning and engineering staff to minimize future modifications and misunderstandings.
  • Actively participate in monthly internal Project Management Meetings.
  • Travel to job sites and meetings using a company vehicle.
  • Fulfill necessary tasks as required.
