General Overview

The Emergency Management Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting the Emergency Management Manager, ensuring effective coordination and collaboration across various departments and local communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate the development and execution of emergency management strategies and plans.
  • Engage with local government entities, state agencies, and federal organizations to ensure comprehensive emergency preparedness.
  • Provide guidance to ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements related to emergency planning.
  • Support public health initiatives, including the logistics of medication distribution during emergencies.
  • Act as a liaison for emergency management operations, ensuring effective communication and representation of Dakota County's interests.
  • Maintain a continuous communication system for emergency situations, ensuring readiness at all times.
  • Oversee the functionality and preparedness of the County Emergency Operations Center.
  • Coordinate training and exercises to enhance disaster response capabilities.
  • Manage grant applications and ensure compliance with funding requirements.
  • Support volunteer engagement for emergency response efforts.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in emergency management or a related field, along with three years of relevant experience.
  • Completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses.
  • A valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in emergency management or a related discipline.
  • Certification as an Emergency Manager.
  • Knowledge of state and federal emergency management regulations and programs.

Work Environment
Work primarily involves office tasks with occasional fieldwork. The role may require lifting up to 30 pounds and involves travel within the county and surrounding areas.
