AcuraStem is a preclinical-stage biotechnology company pioneering innovative therapeutic approaches for neurodegenerative diseases. The iNeuroRx platform, developed by AcuraStem, utilizes human-induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived cells to replicate neuromuscular and neurodegenerative neuron diseases such as ALS and FTD.

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Scientist to manage and advance our current platform technology. This involves leveraging iPSC-derived various CNS cell types to model neurodegenerative disease and recapitulate disease phenotypes. The successful candidate will be responsible for employing the platform for target discovery/validation, lead selection, and biomarker evaluation.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Develop and deploy innovative all-human platforms to support drug discovery and early development.
  2. Design and direct research strategy and activities to meet program objectives; provide project leadership, timelines, and contingency plans.
  3. Apply analytical techniques, including the design of experiments and statistical process control, to diagnose assay performance issues. Conduct statistical analysis and develop solutions to improve assay performance by reducing variability and modifying assay designs.
  4. Present results to internal and external audiences, including the leadership team, partnership organizations, and scientific conferences.
  5. Contribute to the preparation/editing/review of documents for regulatory submission (e.g., study reports, IBs, INDs, etc.).
  6. Initiate or participate in writing grant proposals and progress reports.
  7. Collaborate with other departments and disciplines, acting as a scientific authority.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. with expertise in multiple neuroscience areas, specifically ALS, FTD, Tauopathies, or oligonucleotide therapy experience.
  • A minimum of 4 years of industry experience is required for the Principal Scientist level.
  • Highly experienced with iPSC differentiation protocols to neurons, neurospheres, and organoids (experience with glial cells and muscles is a plus).
  • Deep knowledge of neurodegenerative disease models, particularly in TDP-43 proteinopathies.
  • Experience in a high-content imaging platform.
  • Track record of managing project timeline and resources.
  • Work experience in a matrixed environment; small company and start-up experience preferred.

Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary range for this role is $138,000 – $195,000 annually.
