Job Summary:

The Director of Early Childhood Education is responsible for the overall administration of the program and policies, grant writing, and day-to-day operations. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise personnel and provide technical assistance to staff
  • Resolve minor staff complaints and assist with lesson planning
  • Maintain records for required staff trainings and audit employee records
  • Provide new staff orientation and maintain orientation materials
  • Ensure proper child/staff ratios are maintained at all times
  • Audit and maintain all child files and records to ensure compliance with DCFS and other requirements
  • Develop age-appropriate programming for holidays and special events
  • Collaborate with Pre-K and School Age teachers to plan and schedule field trips
  • Provide guidance and discipline as needed
  • Ensure compliance with Illinois Department of Children and Families Services for day care licensing standards
  • Champion and assist with ExceleRate Illinois Program and Accreditation
  • Maintain classroom arrangements and set up, ensuring adequate, safe and age-appropriate toys available in classrooms
  • Coordinate and record safety drills and other audits in compliance with DCFS standards
  • Work in classrooms for staff lunch coverage, call-ins and bathroom breaks
  • Serve as cook and bus driver, as needed
  • Assist Board of Directors with annual audit, as needed
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Write grants to support the day to day and long-term success of the organization
  • Assist with fundraisers, as needed
  • Schedule parent-teacher conferences on an established frequency
  • Onboard newly enrolled families to review important technology, policies and practices
  • Resolve parent complaints as appropriate and within scope of role
  • Maintain open communication with parents
  • Attend monthly Board of Directors meetings
  • Attend workshops, meetings and trainings when required, including a minimum of 20 hours of in-service training per year
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Meet DCFS Director qualifications: Associate Degree in child development or early childhood education, or 64 semester hours in any discipline with a minimum of 21 hours of college credit in child development, early childhood education or early childhood special education
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Valid Illinois Driver's license
  • Ability to pass a thorough background check
  • Minimum of one year's experience directly related to child care
  • Technology skills, including the ability to use Word and Excel and learn new software programs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organization skills and ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Ability to obtain Food Handler's certification
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Administrative/managerial experience
  • Ability to become an approved DCFS driver/child transporter
  • Ability to obtain Food Manager and Food Sanitation certifications
  • Thorough understanding of regulations set forth by the Department of Child and Family Services
