Under the supervision of the Pharmacy Inpatient Operations Manager, the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist is responsible for:

  • Assessing physician prescriptions for suitability,
  • Completing medication order confirmations,
  • Monitoring the effectiveness and safety of medications,
  • Validating pharmaceutical products before dispensing,
  • Assisting in managing inventory levels.

This role includes providing patient care services and acting as a vital resource for drug-related information for medical and nursing personnel.

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will oversee Pharmacy Technicians operating under their guidance.

Key Responsibilities:

Medication Order Review:

  • Evaluates medication orders and patient records for potential drug interactions and therapeutic duplications.
  • Provides recommendations to healthcare providers and documents necessary interventions.
  • Engages in monitoring medications for safety and efficacy.

Medication Dispensing:

  • Conducts medication verifications as mandated by regulations.
  • Supervises the preparation of medication orders, including compounded medications.

Support for Pharmacy Operations:

  • Participates in the selection, procurement, and receipt of pharmaceuticals.
  • Offers medication-related education and information to healthcare providers.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Graduate from an accredited College of Pharmacy with a BS in Pharmacy.

Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of hospital pharmacy practices is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Must be a Registered Pharmacist in the states of IL and IA.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong time management and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Exhibits accountability, adaptability, and teamwork.
