Senior Geotechnical Engineer

BizFirst is collaborating with a client to recruit a Full-time, Direct Hire Senior Geotechnical Engineer. This role will be based in South Plainfield, NJ, primarily focusing on projects within the state, with occasional travel across the tri-state region. Our client is a dynamic, mid-sized consulting engineering and construction management firm known for its significant involvement in public sector and enterprise projects.

Work Environment

The majority of office tasks will be conducted at the South Plainfield location, while fieldwork may require travel to various sites, including urban areas. Night shifts may be necessary for specific operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in project management and preparation of geotechnical engineering documentation.
  • Conduct geotechnical calculations and perform special inspections related to borings, test pits, and various structures.
  • Oversee field operations and ensure compliance with construction plans and specifications.
  • Utilize lab and field equipment to assess soil conditions and properties.
  • Prepare comprehensive site inspection reports and technical documentation.
  • Maintain effective client relationships and manage project budgets.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including engineers, designers, and technicians.
  • Coordinate field personnel and oversee the quality of field reports.
  • Engage in proposal writing and subcontractor procurement for geotechnical investigations.
  • Conduct QA/QC on design work and approve field staff time and expense reports.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Engineer-In-Training status with a goal of obtaining a Professional Engineering license (P.E.).
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in design software, including Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD.
  • Experience with geotechnical software such as gINT and analysis tools like RISA and DeepXcav.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience in project management is advantageous.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity for operating office and field equipment.
  • Occasional lifting of items up to 50 pounds.
