Employment Type: Full Time
Compensation: $57,396 - $90,424 based on experience
Additional Compensation:
- Relocation award ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 for candidates relocating from outside the region
- Signing bonus between $2,000 and $5,000
- Extended day stipend starting at $1,000
- Extended year stipends from $2,000 to $12,000
Position Overview
Emergence Academy is part of the Springfield Empowerment Zones (SEZP) initiative, focusing on English Language Learners, particularly those with Limited or Interrupted Formal Education (SLIFE). The SLIFE Program is designed to enhance students' language proficiency, emphasizing reading and writing skills through tailored guided reading, phonics, and writing programs, alongside engaging Science instruction. Additionally, foundational Math skills will be developed through instruction aligned with Common Core standards and targeted fluency remediation.
Our mission is to empower educators in crafting high-quality curricula, implementing effective monitoring strategies, gathering relevant data, and designing focused weekly remediation plans. This approach aims to foster accelerated language development by customizing our support to meet individual student needs. Collaborating with students and their families is crucial in helping them achieve high expectations and cultivate the habits necessary for academic success in high school and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
As an educator at Emergence Academy, your responsibilities will include:
- Implementing anti-racist instructional methods that promote student ownership of their learning
- Delivering rigorous, grade-level content utilizing highly-rated, evidence-based curricula
- Providing embedded interventions for students requiring additional support, time, or resources
- Collaborating closely with a co-teaching team of two to three educators in the classroom
- Engaging families as partners in discussing student achievements, challenges, and solutions
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Principal
Qualifications
- Preferred experience in teaching English, Humanities, or History at the middle or high school level
- Preferred experience with English Learners
- Required: Appropriate educator license (MS Humanities) and grade level licensure from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (candidates without current licensure may be eligible for a waiver)
- Preferred experience as an advocate for equity and anti-racism
- Preferred bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, Somali, or Pashto
- Required: Bachelor’s degree

- Expanded Learning Time stipends at select schools, contingent on the annual schedule
