Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Laboratory Technician Lead I to join our team at HealthPartners. As a Medical Laboratory Technician Lead I, you will be responsible for leading a team of medical laboratory technicians and ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect and process biological specimens with appropriate technique following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Perform testing analysis and verify assay/analyzer performance according to SOP in an efficient, quality-focused, cost-effective manner.
  • Document and communicate lab test results thoroughly and accurately according to SOP.
  • Perform and document maintenance procedures and maintain adequate supplies.
  • Consistently implement and adhere to the laboratory customer service and patient experience standards.
  • Respond proactively to stressful circumstances, customer needs, and department/clinic changes.

Lead Duties:

  • Recommends filling or not filling a vacancy or adding to staff.
  • Assists Supervisor in interviewing or in some instances conducts interviews without involvement of a Supervisor.
  • Recommends hiring candidate to Supervisor.
  • May communicate offer of employment from Supervisor to candidate.
  • Prepares staffing schedule.
  • Employees call lead if absent or late.
  • Coverage for planned and unplanned absences.
  • After the semi-annual vacation bidding process, grants daily vacation requests.
  • Approves timecards completed by Employees.
  • May approve working of overtime if specifically delegated by Supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Associate's degree in a lab science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution, or graduate from a 12-month approved school for Certified Laboratory Assistants and eligible to be certified.
  • Documentation of experiences performing high complexity testing prior to 9/1/92.
  • Certification by an agency approved by the ASCP Board of Certification or AMT.
  • Qualified to work in a highly complex laboratory as mandated in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988 (CLIA).
  • Promote teamwork through demonstration of a courteous and cooperative attitude to all customers.
  • Demonstrated computer skills necessary to perform lead duties.
  • Demonstrated skills including: Ability to guide and monitor others in using the laboratory process to provide care to patients and their families Ability to document performance and provide effective feedback to employees Ability to instruct coworkers on job duties Ability to have difficult conversations with coworkers Ability to motivate and influence staff to achieve department needs and goals Strong organizational skills Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships necessary to perform lead duties Ability to lead by example and answer questions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Six months of related medical training or experience.
  • Typing or keyboard skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must possess speech, hearing, and sight skills to perform the functions of the position.
  • Manual dexterity is required.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write English proficiently.
