Job Overview

Join our team at Industrial Trade Services as an Iron Worker, where you will play a crucial role in the construction and assembly of steel structures. This position offers competitive compensation of $25 per hour along with a daily per diem of $115, with opportunities for over 55 hours of work each week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate hoisting equipment to raise and position structural steel components, utilizing basic rigging techniques.
  • Secure steel members to hoisting cables using chains, ropes, or cables.
  • Communicate effectively with equipment operators to ensure safe lifting and placement of steel members.
  • Guide steel members into precise positions using tag lines.
  • Manipulate steel members into approximate positions while they are supported by hoisting devices.
  • Utilize tools such as turnbuckles, crowbars, and jacks to achieve final positioning of steel members.
  • Align bolt holes in steel members using drift pins or spud wrenches.
  • Ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of members using plumb bobs and levels, bolting them in place until they can be permanently secured.
  • Make alterations to steel members through cutting and welding, employing oxyacetylene welding equipment.
  • Handle the loading, transportation, and unloading of materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Assist in the positioning and securing of materials during installation.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and project guidelines, including the use of required personal protective equipment.

  • Proficient in applying shop mathematics to resolve issues.
  • Capability to plan work effectively and select appropriate tools.
  • Skilled in comparing and recognizing differences in sizes, shapes, and forms.
  • Adept at visualizing solid objects from drawings or diagrams.
  • Ability to evaluate information using measurable standards.
Physical Demands

The physical requirements for this role are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions. Regular activities include talking and hearing, as well as frequent sitting and using hands to handle tools and controls. Occasional standing, walking, climbing, and balancing may be required, along with stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The employee must be able to frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Qualifications

A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, along with relevant experience in the field or a related area. Candidates should possess knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the industry. This role typically operates under immediate supervision, with primary functions not requiring independent judgment.
