Position Overview


The Student Engagement Graduate Assistant (GA) role at Avila University is designed to enhance the student life experience by fostering student involvement and development on campus.

This position provides an opportunity to gain valuable experience in areas such as assessment, public speaking, mentorship, and event coordination for university-wide initiatives.

Key Responsibilities


- Collaborate in the planning, promotion, execution, and evaluation of student life activities, leadership training programs, educational initiatives, and special campus events.

- Support Registered Student Organizations in their processes and requirements.
- Assist in the organization and execution of community service events and initiatives.
- Contribute to the Activities Team (The A-Team), which is responsible for orchestrating student events on campus.

- Participate in regular A-Team meetings and provide guidance to student leaders or support the Student Government Association through mentorship.

- Aid in the planning, promotion, execution, and assessment of major events such as Week of Welcome (fall and spring), Homecoming Week, Stress Relief Weeks (fall & spring), and Spring Fling Week.

- Conduct student surveys to gather insights on their needs and preferences regarding Student Life.
- Assist in the development and delivery of presentations related to Student Life initiatives, engagement opportunities, and updates.
- Help organize appreciation events for various student groups (e.g., Resident Assistant appreciation, commuter student appreciation).- Maintain and update bulletin boards for event announcements.
- Support the management of Student Life Office social media platforms and promotional content.
- Ensure the general upkeep of the Marian Center Eagles' Nest.
- Assist in the daily operations of Student Life.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Students or the Associate Director of Student Life.

- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Capacity to work collaboratively with diverse groups, including students, faculty, staff, and external partners.
- A demonstrated commitment to student development, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Proficiency in relevant technology and software for managing student services and data.
- Project assignments will align with the needs, interests, and expertise of the candidate.

The GA is expected to fulfill the required hours as outlined in the Graduate Assistant policy.

This position's duration is contingent upon the successful candidate's availability, not exceeding two full academic years.

The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor's degree and must be enrolled in a graduate program at Avila University.

Maintaining a minimum GPA of 3.0 is essential, along with a commitment to student development, higher education, creativity, vision, passion, and compassion.


Successful candidates should demonstrate their experience in fostering an inclusive environment that supports a diverse student body, including first-generation college students and multilingual learners, while contributing to equity and social justice initiatives.
