About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Veterinary Assistant to join our team at Southern Veterinary Partners. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care to our patients and their owners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinarians and credentialed veterinary technicians with appointments, prepping patients for surgery, and minor procedures.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory samples, such as fecal, urine, and ear cytologies.
  • Restrain animals safely and efficiently during examinations and procedures.
  • Obtain accurate vital signs on patients.
  • Document changes in a pet's condition and vital signs in medical records and notify the doctor or veterinary technician of any unusual medical or behavioral problems.
  • Communicate effectively with the medical team, including front customer service staff and kennel technicians.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the hospital, including kennels and runs, treatment areas, exam rooms, and surgery suite.
  • Care for and maintain all medical equipment, including laboratory machines, surgical packs, anesthesia machines, and other essential tools.
  • Communicate with clients in a compassionate and professional manner regarding their pet's status or any questions they may have.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by doctors, receptionists, and veterinary technicians to ensure the smooth operation of the hospital.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED certificate.
  • Flexible schedule, including some weekend and holiday shifts.
  • Knowledge of medical procedures and animal handling.
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong communication skills, good judgment, and ability to manage stressful situations.
  • Physical and mental capacity to perform in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
  • Dependability, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
