About the Role

The Mount Sinai Health System is seeking a highly skilled Medical Physicist to join our team in the Department of Radiation Oncology. As a Medical Physicist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective delivery of radiation therapy to our patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create treatment plans to accurately deliver the prescribed dose while sparing critical structures.
  • Correlate simulation radiographs with other diagnostic data to determine tumor and target locations and transfer this information from CT to radiographs.
  • Collaborate with radiation therapists in the setup of patients and the use of treatment aids and immobilization devices.
  • Consult with the Radiation Oncologist and assist in the development of a customized treatment plan for patients.
  • Calculate precise measurements and determine the number of radiation beams for the equipment according to the treatment plan.
  • Monitor each patient's treatment and records to assure the quality of their radiation treatments.
  • Teach dosimetry, simulations, and treatment planning to Radiation Oncology Residents and Medical Physics Residents during their rotations.
  • Participate in weekly radiation oncology chart rounds for the review of new patients' treatment and assist in the peer review of treatment plans.
  • Perform QA for linear accelerators, HDR remote afterloader, simulator, treatment equipment, and the treatment planning systems.
  • Conduct both clinical and experimental research.
  • Provide information for protocol patients as requested by the National Quality Assurance Review Center (QARC).
  • Supervise dosimetrists.

About the Team

You will work with a team of 14 board-certified physicists, 9 dosimetrists, 2 medical physics residents, and 17 radiation oncologists within the Mount Sinai Health System. Our state-of-the-art treatment devices include 11 Varian LINACs, ZEISS IORT, CT simulators (Philips, Siemens, and GE), Brainlab Elements and Eclipse treatment planning system, MOSAIQ EMR, HDR Afterloader (Elekta and Varian), Oncentra, ExacTrac, and AlignRT.

Requirements

  • A Master's degree in Medical Physics or a related field (a Ph.D. is preferred).
  • Board-certified or eligible for board certification.
  • Possess, or be eligible for, a New York State Therapeutic Radiological Physics license.
