Your Role

Georgia-Pacific is looking for skilled professionals to fill the position of Sustainability Engineer. This role will report to the site Environmental Leader and play a crucial part in the establishment, execution, and oversight of the facility's environmental compliance initiatives and frameworks. The selected candidate will assist in ensuring adherence to relevant governmental regulations, including state and federal air quality standards, stormwater management, wastewater treatment, and hazardous waste protocols. Additionally, this position will help ensure that the site aligns with pertinent company policies and procedures, such as Georgia-Pacific's Environmental Performance Standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Environmental Technical Expert for the site and oversee GP Performance Standards
  • Ensure compliance with federal (EPA) and state (CCDAQ/NDEP) environmental program requirements, including but not limited to air quality, wastewater, stormwater, solid and hazardous waste, and other relevant regulations
  • Support the implementation of the Corporate Environmental Management System (Critical Risk Management System) and integrate environmental practices into the plant's overall Operational Excellence (OpEx) Plan
  • Stay informed about applicable environmental regulations (federal, state, and local) and evaluate compliance, procedural, and financial implications for the facility
  • Analyze incident and compliance trend data, collaborating with operational departments to mitigate risks
  • Lead investigations into environmental incidents, conduct root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions
  • Manage compliance schedules, coordinate activities, and prepare and submit reports to external agencies punctually
  • Oversee hazardous materials programs to minimize exposure to safety and environmental risks in the workplace
  • Identify cost-effective solutions for technical and regulatory environmental challenges
  • Provide training to facility personnel regarding environmental regulations
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Environmental Management, or Environmental Science
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with environmental compliance and management systems
  • Familiarity with Air Permit programs
  • Background in conducting facility audits or inspections to identify areas for improvement
  • Understanding of project management principles
  • Ability to quickly grasp emissions calculations
  • Experience in implementing key management systems/controls such as Permits, Plans, Licenses & Registrations, and Compliance Calendars
For this position, the anticipated salary range is $85,000 - $105,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, which may be issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
