Maintenance Technician Job Description

Under the supervision of the Facilities/Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing repair and preventative maintenance of county buildings, grounds, and equipment; routine building inspections; maintaining inventory of tools, chemicals, equipment, custodial supplies; and performing other related maintenance/custodial duties as required; position is on-call for extra assignments and overtime.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform repair and preventative maintenance of county buildings, grounds, and equipment
  • Conduct routine building inspections to ensure facilities are safe and well-maintained
  • Maintain inventory of tools, chemicals, equipment, and custodial supplies
  • Perform other related maintenance/custodial duties as required
  • Be on-call for extra assignments and overtime
Qualifications:

Completion of secondary education or equivalent (high school diploma or GED); basic experience in buildings and grounds maintenance, construction field, basic electricity, plumbing, carpentry, masonry repair, or other related maintenance field; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications:

Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license and maintain insurability under the County's vehicle insurance policy.

Equipment Operated:

The following are examples only and are not intended to be all inclusive: Facilities tools and equipment; commonly used Custodian equipment; vacuum cleaner, floor machine, and other standard custodial equipment, motor vehicle.

Inherently Hazardous or Physically Demanding Working Conditions:

Ascends and/or descends stairs; is exposed to environmental conditions which may result in injury from fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and/or poorly ventilated work areas; is exposed to possible injury from hazardous gases, chemicals, flammables, or air contaminants; is exposed to possible injury due to unclean or unsanitary conditions; is exposed to possible injury as a result of electrical shock; is exposed to possible injury as a result of working with moving mechanical parts of equipment or machines; works in or around crowds; has contact with potentially hazardous materials.
