Job Opportunity

Dewberry is seeking a skilled GIS Analyst Intern to join our Richmond, VA office for Summer 2025. This position will focus on GIS analysis and production efforts in support of various civil engineering and environmental services, including site/civil, higher education, energy and utilities, stormwater, and other water resources related projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual to gain hands-on experience and work in a multidisciplinary consulting and engineering firm. The position offers great potential for professional growth and the opportunity to apply the latest technology to our projects.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • GIS data feature extraction and compilation;
  • Creating digital mapping products using various software platforms;
  • Capturing and analyzing data;
  • Creating and manipulating databases;
  • Elevation data processing and manipulation;

Additionally, the candidate will assist engineers in hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, modeling, and floodplain mapping, and produce Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMS) and update related geospatial databases.

The candidate will also develop flood risk products and perform flood risk assessments, analyze GIS datasets for flood hazard mapping and risk projects, and check for graphical and technical accuracy of FIRM deliverables and associated reports.

The candidate will work closely with the project team, project managers, clients, local communities, and other contractors to compile all necessary data to produce the most up-to-date product.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A current working towards Bachelor Degree or higher in geography, GIS, Remote Sensing, or a related field;
  • Demonstrated proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS Desktop;
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Participation in resolving technical challenges;
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications, especially MS Office (Word, Excel, and Access).

Program Information

Our Summer Intern Program provides interns with hands-on project experience, develops technical skills, and puts their classroom knowledge into action. Interns are assigned meaningful work and have the opportunity to work on projects similar to what they would be engaging with as a full-time employee.

Interns participate in a series of workshops and events, including networking opportunities, learning about our services, projects, and clients, professional development workshops, and a summer-long group project where interns work alongside firm leaders to address issues that will impact our future strategy.
