Job Summary:
The University Medical Center of El Paso seeks a skilled Coder/Abstractor, CCS Specialist to accurately code, sequence, and abstract inpatient, outpatient, and emergency department records according to ICD-9-CM and CPT coding guidelines. This role requires a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, as well as excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze and code medical records to ensure accurate and timely reimbursement.
- Abstract medical record information into hospital databases and registries for statistical quality data and fiscal reporting.
- Query physicians for clarification of documentation as needed.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest coding guidelines and regulations.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and efficient coding practices.
Requirements:
- One year of hospital outpatient coding experience required; inpatient coding experience preferred.
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification required.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with health information systems and electronic medical records.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
