Surgical Patient Care Coordinator Job Summary
This role requires a licensed RN with prior surgery experience and the ability to work effectively under pressure. As a Surgical Patient Care Coordinator, you'll collaborate with healthcare teams to ensure the highest quality of care for patients across various surgical specialties. Your primary responsibility will be to plan, implement, and evaluate surgical patient care while maintaining a sterile environment.
About the Position
This position is responsible for ensuring that patients receive the highest level of care during surgical procedures. You'll work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to provide safe, efficient, and effective patient care. In addition to planning and implementing patient care, you'll also evaluate the effectiveness of care provided and make recommendations for improvement.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. A minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar role is preferred, although not required. You must also be able to lift up to 250 pounds and push/pull objects up to 175 pounds on a regular basis.
Performance Standards
The following performance standards are expected of all Surgical Patient Care Coordinators:
Performs comprehensive assessments on all patients using skills of observation, communication, and examination
Develops age-specific plans of care for each patient, identifying problems/needs and communicating nursing plans to the healthcare team
Anticipates and provides equipment and supplies in a timely manner and organized manner based on the needs of the patient and surgeon
Creates and maintains a sterile field by using principles of aseptic practice in varying situations
Initiates corrective action when breaks in technique occur, communicates/documents maintenance of sterile field
Performs counts by following established policy and procedures, initiates corrective action when counts are incorrect, and communicates/documents results of counts
Anticipates and provides safe anatomical positioning based on the needs of the patient and surgeon in accordance with policy and procedure
Maintains OR Suite environment (temperature, humidity, and sensory) adheres to OR sanitation policies
Handles/transports/stores/prepares/specimens/administers medications/solutions safely and in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures
Uses supplies judiciously and documents patient charges completely and accurately
Facilitates staff development, assists with orientation and training of new personnel, participates in the development of educational programs for co-workers
Demonstrates responsibility for assigned communication
Return promptly from breaks and give breaks as needed
Salary Range
The estimated salary range for this position is $65,000 - $85,000 per year, depending on experience. This is a PRN position working days.
