Responsibilities include quality assurance, application analysis, material selection, manufacturing processes, enhancement initiatives, testing, and validation protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product Engineering: Engage in a diverse role within a transmission remanufacturing organization, concentrating on refining the remanufacturing workflow and elevating the performance and dependability of the final product. This position merges engineering fundamentals, manufacturing insights, and a profound comprehension of transmission systems.
  • Reverse Engineering: Examine original equipment manufacturer (OEM) transmissions to grasp their design, materials, and production methodologies.
  • Component Design and Enhancement: Innovate or adjust components to boost durability, performance, or cost efficiency, focusing on critical parts such as gears, shafts, and clutches.
  • Process Improvement: Optimize the remanufacturing workflow to enhance efficiency, minimize expenses, and elevate quality, covering all stages from disassembly to final assembly and testing.
  • Quality Assurance: Develop and uphold stringent quality benchmarks to guarantee that remanufactured transmissions meet or surpass OEM standards.
  • Failure Investigation: Analyze transmission failures to determine root causes and implement corrective measures.
  • Material Selection: Identify suitable materials for components based on criteria such as cost, durability, and performance.
  • Testing and Validation: Execute comprehensive testing to confirm the performance and reliability of remanufactured transmissions.
  • Documentation: Generate and maintain precise engineering drawings, specifications, and process documentation.
  • Oversee the introduction of new product lines and variants as necessary.
  • Mentor and guide junior Product Engineers.
  • Manage and maintain system documentation, including A-Charts, BOMs, ECIs, and Build charts.
  • Engage with OEM clients to negotiate timelines, project scopes, and priorities.
  • Act as the lead Engineer for multiple product lines or facilities.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain to enhance quoted BOMs through the assessment of component attrition rates.
  • Provide technical expertise regarding all components and functionalities of various transmission and drive units.
  • Maintain and enhance tooling and technology (sub-assembly testers) for existing product lines.
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineers, Mechanical Designers, and Applications Engineers to develop an efficient disassembly and assembly production line.
  • Collaborate with Test Engineers to establish and comprehend all testing protocols and limits for transmissions.
  • Lead Lean, Kaizen, 5S, SMED, and Continuous Improvement initiatives to eliminate waste.
  • Identify and spearhead cost-saving projects, including salvage processes.
  • Participate in resolving production and quality challenges related to facilities, equipment, or processes.
  • Facilitate meetings, seminars, and training sessions to stay updated on advancements in the field.
  • Pursue continuing education opportunities to remain informed about evolving technologies.
  • Provide technical information as required to all departments, including sales, marketing, legal, test engineering, and manufacturing engineering.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's or advanced degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Relevant experience and demonstrated knowledge of:
    • Functionality of various automotive transmissions or the ability to learn.
    • Components of automotive transmissions and their functions or the ability to learn.
    • Hands-on experience with disassembling and reassembling automotive transmissions or a willingness to participate in order to learn.
    • Documentation such as APQP, PFEMA, Control Plans, Process Flows.
    • IATF 16949 systems, including understanding and adherence to policies, procedures, and instructions.
    • Solid understanding of error-proofing concepts and applications.
    • Familiarity with automotive test systems.
    • Strong communication skills (both oral and written).
    • Proficiency with Project Management tools.
    • Organized, skilled in technical writing, and thorough in documenting work.
    • Problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
    • Lean and continuous improvement mindset.
    • Ability to respond effectively to unforeseen issues in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
    • Capacity to build and maintain effective working relationships with team members and management.
    • Strong mechanical engineering foundation.
    • In-depth knowledge of transmission systems and components.
