Job Summary

As a Central Sterile Technician at St. David's South Austin Medical Center, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest level of patient care by maintaining a clean and sterile environment for surgical instruments and equipment. This is a dynamic and challenging position that requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean and decontaminate surgical instruments using detergents and disinfecting solutions
  • Wrap, seal, and label items that are to be sterilized
  • Sterilize instruments, equipment, surgical linen, and related supplies using plasma and steam sterilizers
  • Prepare surgical packs, instruments, dressings, and treatment trays
  • Ensure proper storage of sterilized and prepared supplies and equipment in designated areas
  • Inventory equipment used and record daily patient charges
  • Inform bio-med of equipment that is no longer serviceable or of any other issues that arise
  • Compile department statistics and file information as assigned
Requirements
  • At least 1 year of sterile processing experience in a hospital setting
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Completion of an accredited Sterile Processing program - preferred
  • Certification in Sterile Processing through International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) - required within 6 months of hire
