Position Summary
As the Purchasing Manager, you will collaborate closely with our Purchasing team and business leaders. Your primary responsibilities will encompass overseeing and coordinating the effective procurement of materials, ensuring inventory accuracy for both raw materials and finished goods. This role is crucial for maintaining the efficient and cost-effective flow of inbound materials, as well as ensuring precise inventory transactions across our manufacturing sites. You will be responsible for establishing and enforcing policies and procedures that foster effective working relationships with colleagues at all organizational levels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement purchasing strategies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with Managers, Schedulers, and Project Managers to optimize the flow of materials and supplies.
  • Facilitate monthly supply reviews to meet customer demand effectively.
  • Identify risks and opportunities related to complex proposals and supply chain issues.
  • Mentor and coach team members in executing daily procurement tasks and managing supplier performance.
  • Drive change management and communication initiatives for new supply chain policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate vendor performance to ensure cost-effectiveness, quality, and timely deliveries.
  • Maintain and report on a monthly KPI dashboard to senior leadership.
  • Oversee inventory levels and accuracy through cycle-count activities.
  • Conduct quarterly business reviews with strategic suppliers.
  • Negotiate and establish standard costs with suppliers.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement through performance management and career development of direct reports.
  • Manage risks associated with sole-source suppliers and identify potential alternative suppliers.
  • Ensure production schedules are met through timely procurement and supplier performance management.
  • Collaborate with the plant to validate material usage and control consumption, accounting for breakage and spoilage.
  • Manage supplier risks related to quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Negotiate contracts, prices, and timelines with suppliers.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records and related documentation.
  • Participate in financial meetings to identify spend category challenges.
  • Analyze quotes and bids for price consistency and specification compliance.
  • Train business and purchasing teams on policies and best practices.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; Associate degree or industry certifications with relevant experience required.
  • Supervisory and management experience preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of inventory and supply chain management.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and negotiation abilities.
  • Proficient in planning, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Effective ERP and Microsoft Excel skills.
