Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Technologist to join our team in the Microbiology department at West Virginia University Hospitals. As a Medical Technologist, you will be responsible for performing and analyzing clinical laboratory tests in all laboratory disciplines, adhering to standard operating policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process and analyze samples in a timely and orderly fashion, meeting usual and customary levels of productivity.
  • Set up, run, maintain, and adjust laboratory instruments according to policies and procedures.
  • Take appropriate action for quality control in all technical areas and follow infection control procedures for all job-related functions.
  • Perform phlebotomy procedures on patients as needed.
  • Complete forms and reports findings to nurses and/or physicians.
  • Interact with other healthcare workers to solve problems and interpret patient lab results within the framework of medical technology.
  • Maintain all patient and specimen records accurately, neatly, and legibly.
  • Follow hospital, state, and federal guidelines for ensuring a safe environment for workers, patients, and public.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology/Medical (Clinical) Laboratory Science or related field.
  • State licensure as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) within 90 days of hire, if performing final result reporting of moderate/high complexity testing.
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) is preferred.
