Position Summary

JGM is on the lookout for a seasoned Health & Safety Engineer to join our Turnkey Industrial Construction division. This role will report directly to the Health & Safety Manager and will play a crucial part in overseeing safety programs and initiatives across various locations, including our fabrication facility. The selected candidate will promote a robust safety culture at our headquarters, fabrication site, and all project locations, which may require full-time commitment at different job sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular safety assessments in the steel fabrication shop and various job sites.
  • Perform job site inspections and generate comprehensive audit reports.
  • Evaluate subcontractor job sites for safety compliance.
  • Act as a representative for the organization with clients and regulatory bodies.
  • Implement corrective actions and provide safety recommendations for both shop and field environments.
  • Facilitate safety orientation for new employees.
  • Deliver training sessions for field and shop personnel at all levels.
  • Investigate workplace incidents and near misses thoroughly.
  • Develop detailed safety plans for projects in compliance with OSHA, MSHA, EM-385, DOT, USACE & EPA standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Work Environment

This role may involve physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials. Work may be conducted outdoors in various weather conditions, and employees may encounter hazardous materials or environments. Safety gear such as gloves, hard hats, and protective clothing will be required to mitigate risks.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to evolving situations.
  • Proficient in basic mathematical calculations and graph interpretation.
  • Ability to read and understand regulations, plans, and construction drawings.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in standardized situations.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Capability to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Demonstrated skills in conflict resolution and team collaboration.
  • Ability to utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary.
  • Physical capability to meet job-related demands.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CHST Certification.
  • OSHA 500 and 501 Outreach Trainer certification.
  • MSHA Certification.
  • 5+ years of experience in construction safety.
  • Experience in training for mobile equipment, fall protection, and hazard recognition.
  • Effective communication skills with both management and craft workers.
  • Critical thinking abilities.
  • Familiarity with safety standards for structural steel and rigging.
