Job Summary

As an Outreach Athletic Trainer with Corewell Health, you will play a vital role in providing quality, evidence-based athletic health services to stakeholders in our sports medicine outreach program. Your primary responsibility will be to develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive healthcare programs for patients, clients, and athletes. This includes injury/illness prevention and wellness protection, clinical assessment and impression, immediate and emergency care, treatment and rehabilitation, and organizational and professional health and well-being of individuals under the direction of a physician.

Key Responsibilities
  • Triage patients as directed by physicians and other providers, providing patient instruction as directed and collecting and monitoring patient data.
  • Evaluate athletes' physical condition, response, and progress, discussing with appropriate physicians, lead athletic trainers, or managers, and interfacing with student athletes, parents, staff, coaches, physicians, athletic trainers, and auxiliary medical personnel for information exchange on athletes' conditions.
  • Operate treatment headquarters at practice and game sites, managing modalities, equipment, and supplies, as well as maintaining the general cleanliness of athletic facilities and treatment areas.
  • Prepare players for each practice and game by exercising, preventative taping and bandaging techniques, and overseeing team warm-up and flexibility periods.
  • Work with the team physician/lead athletic trainer/manager to plan, organize, and implement pre-season physical examinations of all players and determine when it is medically safe for an ill or injured athlete to return to competition.
  • Rehabilitate injured players following athletic injury or surgery, following the onset of injury through conservative or surgical procedures to provide the best possible outcome for the athlete.
Qualifications
  • Required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in athletic training or a related field, Master's degree or equivalent completion of a CAATE-approved athletic training education program or educational equivalent, successful completion of a competency-based orientation program, and 1 year of relevant experience in all aspects of athletic training.
  • Required certifications: CRT-Athletic Trainer, Certified - BOC Board of Certification and Accreditation, LIC-Athletic Trainer License - STATE_MI State of Michigan, CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association or ARC American Red Cross.
Physical Demands

The physical demands of this role include occasional sitting, frequent standing, walking, forward bending, trunk rotation, squatting, stair climbing, crawling/kneeling, reaching above shoulder, reaching at shoulder or below, handling, forceful grip, forceful pinch, and finger/hand dexterity.
