Job Title: Electrical Distribution Engineer

Join the Reading Municipal Light Department as an Electrical Distribution Engineer and contribute to the development and implementation of electrical distribution systems.

Job Summary

As an Electrical Distribution Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, planning, and implementing electrical distribution systems that meet the needs of our customers. You will work closely with our team to ensure that our systems are safe, reliable, and efficient.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and plan electrical distribution systems, including substations, transmission lines, and distribution lines.
  • Perform load flow, protection, and coordination studies to ensure the proper operation of our systems.
  • Develop and implement emergency operating procedures, including REMVEC drills and emergency operations.
  • Monitor system power factor and determine placement of capacitors for correction of power factor.
  • Prepare technical procedures for the inspection and maintenance of substations and associated control systems.
  • Perform short circuit analysis, protection, and coordination studies to ensure the proper protection of our systems.
  • Develop and implement Volt/Var optimization techniques.
  • Prepare technical specifications for the procurement of electrical sub-transmission distribution equipment, control apparatus, and metering.
  • Prepare construction specifications and drawings for both overhead and underground constructions.
  • Develop and implement Smart Grid & Distribution Automation Roadmaps and schedules its implementation.
  • Perform all aspects of quality project management.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of demonstrated electrical engineering distribution design planning experience.
  • Knowledge of NESC, OSHA, and related O/H and U/G distribution construction and safety standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of system modeling, system protection, and coordination, utilizing Milsoft Engineering Software.
  • Knowledge of GIS and applicable software packages.
  • Knowledge of SCADA automation and related integrated distribution software management systems.
  • Ability to perform complex engineering calculations and to analyze engineering problems.
Working Conditions

The Electrical Distribution Engineer will work in a fast-paced environment with occasional adverse weather and working conditions. Moderate physical effort may be required on an intermittent basis.

Benefits

The Reading Municipal Light Department offers a competitive salary range of $113,185 to $150,820 and a comprehensive benefits package.
